The Stainless Steel Kabob Skewers Rack – A Cave Tools Review

If you’d like to follow my product review blog, click here. I will be transitioning all of my product reviews from this point onward onto “Mandirito Reviews” to keep everything nice and tidy! Enjoy!

Given my overwhelmingly positive experience with Cave Tools recently, I was pleasantly surprised when I was approached to review another product: the Kabob Skewers Rack. In my household, a great deal of our meals are made on the grill so we were thrilled to give this product a go. I’ve found that there are countless different dishes that can be produced using kabobs, from grilled fruit salads to grilled veggie medleys.

KabobsImage2.jpgPictured Above: The original packaging of the Stainless Steel Kabob Set from Cave Tools.

KabobsImage1.jpg

Notable Features:

  • A Change for the Better: The kabob skewers have a flat base, which keeps the food from sliding out of place during the cooking process, unlike many kabob skewers I’ve seen on the market, produced with a rounded base that doesn’t grip well enough.
  • Quick Clean: Both the stainless steel rack and skewers are very easy to clean! A simple wipedown does the trick in most cases.
  • Durability: The skewers are durable enough to pierce and cook a variety of foods, from tougher meats like roast and steak, to produce, like sliced zucchini (one of my personal favorites!) and cherry tomatoes. It can handle any dish you’re cooking up.
  • Storage Options: The skewers have holes at the end for alternative storage. Don’t want to stuff them in a drawer? No problem! Hang them on some hooks for later use and even easier access.
  • Perfect for all levels of expertise: This product is perfect for both beginners and experts alike! I, as a beginner with kabobs, found this product to be straightforward and incredibly easy to work with.

If you’d like to try it out for yourself, Cave Tools has offered my readers (you guys!) a 15% off discount (on top of the already affordable price) on your own Kabob Set when purchased from Amazon!

Ipsy’s July Glam Bag: First Impressions!

I’ve missed doing the whole beauty product review routine, so I’m back at it with my first impressions of Ipsy’s July Glam Bag, and boy, do I have a lot to say!

JulyIpsyMandirito

If you’re one of my regular readers, you’d know that I don’t prefer getting skin and hair products in my Ipsy bags, first off because with my hair, a sample size of hair product won’t do much. My hair is practically down to my hips and realistically, a sample size could probably only treat 1/25 of my tresses, give or take. Not worth the $10, to me. Secondly, my skin issues are something that I’ve been viciously battling for years and I’ve finally gotten to the point where my acne is “backing off”, with just a blemish or two, here and there. Now that my highly active skin is admitting forfeiture, I’m avoiding experimenting with new skin products for the most part. I stick to my guns about the lotions and cleansers I swear by and don’t generally deviate from them. With all that being said, let’s get started on first impressions.

I’m going to start with the products that I was highly impressed with. To start off, the beauty bag the products came in is SO. CUTE. Overwhelmingly cute. It’s bright, festive, and something I’d love to carry around in my purse! The bag is almost always as great as the products! I got five products total in my glam bag this month: a coral-toned nail polish, a 2-in-one eyeliner and shadow, a sample-size dry shampoo, a brightening serum, and a pair of brand new, baby-pink tweezers.

The first thing I stumbled across was the bubble-wrapped (already a plus!) nail polish. Ripping off the bubble-wrap excitedly, I was thrilled to see the Gel Effect Nail Lacquer by Aurora in the color #112, called “4 Alarm Fire”. The color is spot-on for Summer vacationing and a great pick-me-up for the Summer class blues. I was also blessed with a full-size nail polish instead of a sample size, but knowing how gorgeous this color is going to be against my olive tan, I could imagine this polish is going to go much faster than the others. Beautiful color, great texture, and it seems like an excellent, high-quality polish. I’m thrilled to try it on!

Next, I have the absolutely adorable pair of Crown Brush tweezers. I am the kind of girl that buys about ten pairs of tweezers, only to be able to find one around the house on rare occasions. I always lose my tweezers, even when I feel like I put them all in the same spot. Weird, right? So needless to say, I’m happy that they went ahead and sent me another pair. The first thing I noticed was the weight of the tweezers. The ones I’ve bought in the past were either plastic or a light metal, but this pair has some weight to it. I like that it has an angled plucking side so I’m able to grab hairs closer to the skin with ease. These will come in handy the next time I shape my brows. I’ll update you on their effectiveness.

I then grabbed the Jelly Pong Pong 2-in-1 Eyeliner & Shadow. When swatched on my hand (which is slightly darker than the shade of my face, as my body tans a million times more than my face ever does! ha!), the pencil is a deep chestnut color with a mauve undertone, which is something new and different on my end. This color is going to probably be my new go-to eyeliner this Summer when I’m looking for a more subtle, dewey look and trying to avoid the harshness of black eyeliner. There’s a time and place for a smokey eye, and many more times and places for a moderately nude face, which I know this pencil will help me achieve. And the absolute BEST PART of this pencil is that it is cruelty-free! Hallelujah to that! I love receiving cruelty-free products!

*Sigh* Alright. Now, we’re onto the two-products that I just…don’t know how to feel about yet. Both are sample sized; one is a hair product, the other is a skin product. The skin product is by pur~lisse and is an “ultra skin brightening serum”. I’ve never had anything like that before, and I’m willing to try it, but I don’t know how a sample-sized skin product is going to make that much of a difference. I’ll let you guys know. As for the hair product, I received an Eva-NYC Freshen Up Dry Shampoo which, even though it’s a sample size, would probably be more useful out of the two, seeing as the weather where I live is on and off, and dry shampoo is something I can always use to rejuvenate my hair when it’s as tired of the dry heat as I am. It’s promising. Plus, I can put in in my book bag or purse to carry on the go! I’ll find a use for it.

I hope you guys enjoyed my first impressions review and I look forward to continuing to write here in the future! Leave a comment if you’d like.

Makeup of the Day: Peachy Keen!

DSC_0072-motd

Today, I did a very simple, clean makeup look. I wasn’t feeling like going all out with colors but the natural glow of my skin this morning gave me an idea to go for more peachy tones. I don’t usually go for pinks/peaches just because I generally like to pack a punch, but today was an early morning class and I thought this look would carry through the day well. I started off by applying a sunscreen on my skin. I have oily/combination skin so I generally like to use sunscreens that don’t add an excessive amount of oil. On a regular basis, I like to use Olay sunscreen because it feels light, absorbs quickly, and doesn’t leave my makeup feeling cakey (worst feeling ever). During the time that it’s DSC_0082absorbing, I usually brush my teeth and my hair to make sure that, in the process of applying my makeup, I’m not removing the sunscreen. After it’s absorbed well, I start with my Rimmel Stay Matte foundation in #200. The color is fairly light for me, but to ensure that it matches my skin on a day to day basis, I like to add some warm bronzer (In this case, I used the NYC Color Wheel Mosaic) lightly on top to blend the color more effectively. I like to use my makeup sponge to dab the foundation underneath my eyes gently, as well as on the eyelid and area underneath my brow. However, I don’t use the makeup sponge much on other areas of my face just because I feel like it’s pretty difficult to clean and tends to soak up a great deal of foundation whenever I use it. It’s generally only used for touch ups and details. Then I used my Elf blush in “Pink Passion” on the tops of my cheeks to illuminate my skin. I don’t worry so much about my cheeks looking abnormally pink, because the next step allows me to make it more natural looking. I take my Covergirl “Translucent Light” powder and dab it across my cheeks and along my skin with a large powder brush to set the foundation and blend the blush into a more natural, rosy color. After I’ve set my makeup, I used just a touch of Clinique’s “Almost Peach” eyeshadow and dabbed this glittery, subtle pink just underneath my brows to illuminate my brow bones. The final step of this look was applying my new lipgloss from Neutrogena’s MoistureSmooth series in “Rich Raisin” very lightly, applying one even coat and blotting the excess.

I hope you guys enjoyed this step by step makeup of the day look, and if you have any suggestions on other posts that you’d like me to do, please do not hesitate to contact me! I love hearing from you guys! If you enjoyed the post, feel free to share and comment. Your support is always appreciated. Thank you! 🙂

Media Mondays: Cinderella to….Tinderella?

MediaMondaysTinder

Let’s try something a little different, shall we?

Introduction to “Media Mondays”!

Media is something that reaches our lives in a multitude of ways and contributes to our impression of the world around us. It introduces us to new concepts, cultural differences, passions, and so much more. As a Digital Media major, it’s a topic I am incredibly head-over-heels passionate about and I’d like to inject that passion into my writing more often. I love writing about makeup and other girly things, don’t get me wrong, but I have so many different passions and I feel that it is essential to incorporate all of my interests, instead of focusing on tutorials and reviews like I have lately! I will continue to do these kinds of posts, though, from time to time because I do admit it keeps me in touch with my feminine side! Haha.

With that being said, I’d like to try something a little different. Lately I’ve gotten some feedback that some of my readers really miss my Sassy Saturdays format and would like to see more of it in the future, so really, who am I to refuse? I love doing casual posts for you guys, and I love when you guys give me positive feedback! On Mondays, from this moment moving forward, I’d like to talk about media that has caught my eye recently, whether it’s a newly released flick, a cd worth noting, an app I’ve grown unhealthily addicted to, and so on, but in that format. So casual posts about media that’s worth spotlighting. As a side note, too, I will inform you if the post is sponsored or not, but generally speaking, I only sponsor concepts/apps/products that I personally believe in, and if it is a sponsored post, it won’t be included in Media Mondays. Media Mondays are strictly for me to gather my own thoughts.

WARNING: Here is a little side note for those who get offended by sexualized language or anything like that. You might want to stop reading at this point. The language that people on Tinder use isn’t all that clean and I want to keep this review as honest as possible. You have been warned. Turn back now before things get ugly. And weird. Mostly weird.

TinderSwipe

I’m going to jump right into this. Several people requested I do a type of “review” for an app that has recently grown exponentially in terms of popularity among the young adult community and college campuses everywhere: the infamous “Tinder” application. As a newly confirmed singleton, I initially Tinder3cringed at the idea but, through my clenched teeth and willpower to give you guys what you want because I love you, I decided to give it a chance for you guys (and of course for some laughs of my own). And let me just take a moment to say that this is not a dating app. Sure, it’s classified as one in the app store, but let it be known that dating isn’t part of the Tinder community’s primary agenda. Without sugar coating it, it’s a “hookup” app. The app finds people that fit the age preferences that you set as well as the distance preferences, and I kept mine very local and close to my age range. I’m going to be honest here. The app is pretty superficial. I mean, you swipe right if you think they’re cute (let’s be honest, you never get much from reading the bios, other than lots of “420 blaze it” references), andTinder1 swipe left if they remind you of your dad or family in general…. Or look like a creep. Or their one posted photo looks like a stock photo. Or all of the above. Simple as that.  And then you wait until they swipe right on you, if they do. If they do decide to grace you with their presence, then you can chat. It makes the whole thing feel pretty passive and impersonal. Included in this post are several chats that I have experienced with my “matches” made in heaven. In order to preserve their anonymity and save them from the embarrassment that they projected onto themselves by sending me conversations that were worth mentioning (and even more so worth denying that they ever Tinder2said, if asked), I’m going to block out names, pictures, and other identifying information and leave just the creepy, and hilarious, solicitations. The pictures I included are actual conversations that I’ve had on Tinder. So there are several kinds of people that use this app. There are the ones that lead into conversation with funny banter that had me laughing out loud when I read their pickup lines, there are the one’s that dive right in to the heart of the matter, asking for sexual favors and the like, there are the defensive ones that get hot and bothered five seconds after messaging with no immediate reply, there are the ones that want to tell you fun facts and then bail, and there are those who intend to create the most Tinder6boring, tedious conversation known to man with a complete stranger and see how long they can keep them engaging in painful smalltalk. And then there’s a select handful of people on there that do actually want something meaningful. After days of hardcore intense research, I’ve come to the conclusion that this app is just not for me (surprise, surprise). Personally, I’m not down for hooking up and I know for sure that, because of that reason, online dating just wouldn’t work for me. I need to feel conversational and intellectual Tinder8chemistry before I even consider dating someone, and there’s really not either of those things on here. But it was an interesting experience and there are no regrets on my end. If you’re looking for something less serious or you just want to meet some crazies and you have a few free moments to do so, go ahead and download the app, take it for a spin. It’s free on the app store, too, so there’s really no loss in trying it. I’m actually glad someone requested this just so I could see what all the fuss was about.

So here’s how it stacks up in my book:

  • Usefulness: 2/10 – I don’t see it having any use in my life other than for entertainment.
  • Entertainment: 8/10 – It’s funny, I’ll give it that. I met some pretty hilarious people on here, and even the weird ones had me laughing.
  • Overall Score: 5/10 – I wasn’t impressed with the app. Interesting, new concept, but it’s just not my thing.

If there are any other applications or any other types of media that you guys would like me to give a chance and review, you can send them to any of the following links:

I hope you enjoyed this post and I look forward to continuing on with Media Mondays in the future! Thank you for taking the time to continually read, subscribe, and share my work. It means a lot to me.

Have a wonderful (hopefully enlightened) day, and let me know about your experiences Tindering in the comments below!

Makeup of the day sign

Today’s Makeup Look: A simple, casual Sunday look for the closing of the weekend! I’m focusing on my eyes today (hence the “All Eyes on Me” title! Haha get it?) with a more dynamic eyeshadow and eyeliner combination, and toning down my lips with a subtle pink gloss. All of the makeup I’m wearing is from Ulta beauty, which is my go-to for all of my beauty essentials!

Products Worn Currently:

  • Studio Gear Lipgloss in “Sin City” – If you’d like to check out this lipgloss, click here! It’s $16 on the Studio Gear website. It’s a little on the expensive side but it has a glittery sheen to it and can be reapplied in layers to intensify the color. It also looks great when coating a red lip.

LIP-GLOSS-SIN-CITY

  • L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in Black/Noir – If you’d like to check out the eyeliner, click here! It’s $8.95! I’ve been using this type of eyeliner for a year or so and I think that the best part about it is that it can make clean lines but can also be smudged to create a more sultry look.

  • Covergirl LashBlast 24HR Mascara – If you’d like to check out this long-lasting mascara, click here! It’s $8.99! This mascara is one of the few that manages to stay on for a very long period of time. With that being said, if you’re going to a pool party and you still want to look cute, you should definitely try out Covergirl’s 24 hour mascara. I guarantee it will stay on the entire day/night. To make sure that I didn’t get visible mascara marks on the outside of my eyes, I applied my eyeshadow first.

  • Olay Complete All Day UV Moisturizer SPF 15 for Sensitive Skin – If you want a lightweight moisturizer with sunscreen that won’t clog your pores, you can check it out here: click here! It’s originally $8.99 and the bottle lasts a while. I’ve been using this lotion for years and it works wonderfully underneath my foundation and powder. I used the moisturizer as a base to the rest of my makeup.

  • E.L.F. Studio 144-Piece Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette – If you want a palette with plenty of colors and shades, click here! I love E.L.F. products. As a college student, if I can save money on anything, I am happy. Plus, I like being able to wear a bunch of different colors and knowing that each shade in the palette is enough for many uses. 144 colors is plenty to satisfy your fix! In this photo, I mixed several of the neutral browns and created an ombre that darkened at the outer corner of my eyes!

Feast Your Eyes on Ipsy’s October “Beauty Candy” Makeup Bag: A Beauty Product Review

I don’t know about you but as a busy college student living hours away from the people I have grown close with, I’m taken aback by receiving mail, even summaries from my bank, because receiving mail regularly has always escaped me. A day that I receive anything in that little mailbox of mine is a thrill ride. So when I received my nail jewels that I had ordered what feels like years ago (traveling from China takes longer than I could ever imagine for something so small!) and my Ipsy makeup bag package for October, I was at a loss for words. Pure, radiating joy! Not only was I feeling the love (from myself, as I was the one that had ordered these fabulous things, for myself obviously!), but there’s a feeling of satisfaction knowing that I’m going to have some new colors and products to show off in the coming week. I’ve gotten significantly more interested in exploring makeup, hair treatments, and nail art this year, so my Ipsy subscription allows me to explore my beauty tool options without having to shell out every last dollar in my wallet. It’s actually pretty affordable when you realize how much each product is when you buy them separately. It gives me the chance to essentially try new looks and products “guilt free”, and I have a subscription for a whole year paid off, so I have ten more months of pretty things just itching to get to my mailbox next!

This month, I received 5 products! Yes, 5! I love when they load up my bag like they did this month. My initial thought was to not get too excited because on Instagram, quite a few people were complaining about getting hair and skin products when they had explicitly requested not to. I am one of those people that generally sticks to my ways when it comes to lotions and cleansers, so I agree with not wanting to waste a sample on either one of these categories. When I opened to metallic pink shipping package, there was my beautiful new makeup bag. This makeup bag was much less “cheap looking” than the one from last month (I wasn’t impressed with the bag the products came in last month, but that didn’t hold me back from loving what I received regardless!), and had this really pretty texturized, quilted blue print. I love the color and I love the way the bag feels! I was immediately drawn to the whole look and feel of it.

When I opened the bag, like I said, I had 5 different products to check out. I received a Doll 10 Highlighter, a VolumEyes Mascara Sample, a City Color Be Matte Lipstick, a Figs & Rouge Hand Cream in Mango Mandarin, and a sample package of Skyn Glacial Cleansing Cloths. In order to give you a full idea of what I received this month, I will review each product individually.

Doll 10 Highlighter

21lZlcul39L

I was extremely excited about this product. I’ve just recently taken up the art of face contouring and am continuing to research it and advance my skills (it’s definitely a process, especially for someone like me who, until recently, knew very little about how to use makeup to its fullest potential). When I opened this, however, I was a bit disheartened by the subtlety of it at first swab. When I brushed my finger across the surface, the pigment was practically invisible. When I contour, I like to be able to see how the makeup changes the look, especially when I highlight. If I’m going to highlight my cheek bones, I want there to be a difference when I apply the makeup or there’s no reason to apply it. When I applied it, although it took several strokes of the palette, it did end up having a pretty, dewey finish. The finished product wasn’t as monumentally great as I thought it would be, but I could see this product coming to good use at some point. It still has a good amount of usage potential. What I also noticed, too, which others may or may not mind, was that the highlighter wasn’t as creamy as I thought it would be. I usually use fairly creamy highlighters but this one is reminiscent of the texture of cream eyeshadow. It’s going to take some getting used to.

This product is a bit on the pricier side (it’s $30 on the website), but if you’d like to try it out for yourself, CLICK HERE.

VolumEyes Mascara Sample

Screen Shot 2014-10-20 at 4.09.29 PM

I don’t have a fight to pick with this one. It does its job well. The volume of my eyelashes is much, much brighter and more defined than I thought it would be. I wish this product wasn’t a sample, but regardless, once I run out, I’ll be heading out to the store to give it another go. I’m not as picky about mascaras because as long as they don’t make my eyes feel like they’ve caught on fire every time the crumbs tumble into my eyes, I feel like they’re serving their purpose. That is, if they make me look like minnie mouse. Having a nice pair of thick eyelashes has been a long-time dream of mine, so I don’t protest to trying new products that will give me this effect. VolumEyes is a keeper!

City Color Be Matte Lipstick in Cappuccino

Screen Shot 2014-10-20 at 4.05.26 PM

Gosh, I wish I loved this lipstick more than I do. Lipstick is my thing. I love trying out new colors, bold shades that contrast with my clothes…A great lipstick can tie together any outfit perfectly. But this lipstick…This shade in particular has become really popular recently, as my sister had mentioned that Kylie Jenner had set off a coffee/nude lip craze. This color is just that. It’s very pretty in the tube, but I’m not sure of how I feel about it when it’s actually on my mouth. The problem is that, when I put my bronzer on, this lipstick makes me look like I legitimately have a nonexistent pucker. Like someone carved a hole where my mouth is supposed to be and left the lips unfinished. My lips are really thin as is…I’m trying to stay open to the idea of wearing a somewhat nude lip, and I will give this one another chance, but part of me wishes that they’d throw in a berry shade instead. Berry is more my scene, or actually red. Red would be exquisite.

If you’d like to try this lipstick, CLICK HERE.

Figs & Rouge Hand Cream in Mango Mandarin

Figs__amp__Rouge_Mango__amp__Mandarin_Shea_Butter_Hand_Cream_20ml___feelunique_com_Exclusive_1403779663

Ah, I did not want skin products. At all. On a scale from one to ten on how much I desire to smother myself in new skin creams, 1 being a firm “no” and 10 being a “grabby-handed” yes, I’d be a -5. NEGATIVE. FIVE. I didn’t want skin cream!

Despite my initial disappointment, however, the bottle of this lotion caught my eye immediately. It’s really cute and colorful. I wanted to give it a shot anyway. The smell is airy and light, which I love, and I have to say that it will suffice. If I were guaranteed to get a hand cream, I wouldn’t mind getting this one. I just have too many lotions, scrubs, and creams at home to even bother buying more. Berry lipstick, I still want you in my life.

Skyn Iceland Glacial Cleansing Cloths

product_36_0

Recently I had come to the conclusion that I was tired of using a scrub and astringent nightly to manage my skin and remove the makeup aftermath of the day. It burns (because of the condition of my acne), it gets dry, and it’s uncomfortable for at least a few minutes afterwards. I was on the verge of going to Target that afternoon when I received this package. I think it might’ve actually been destiny when I received the Skyn Cloths. They remove 90% of the makeup on their own, which says a lot because when I do makeup, it tends to stick to my skin like cement. These cleansing cloths do a beautiful job of cleaning up my skin and leaving the skin feeling fresh and actually clean. Granted I do still wash my skin with water afterwards because I am paranoid, but this sample was very impressive. It was only a sample, too, but came with a total of 10 cloths, which is a great deal for a sample! Samples, if you’re lucky, have just enough to get the job done once, but I think I’m equipped for the rest of the week! It’ll actually give me enough time to buy some on my own, now that I know what I’m looking for.

If you’d like to try these out, because they’re awesome, CLICK HERE.

I hope you guys enjoyed my review on the Ipsy bag I received for the month of October! If you can, I’d really appreciate if you give me a moment of your time and respond to the poll below.

If you have any other comments, feel more than welcome to comment on this post!

Have a beautiful day, lovelies! xo
